Printed Kardex
The INAOE Luis Enrique Erro Library has a periodical’s room which was created when the Institute was founded. In the beginning, its holdings consisted of donations made by researchers and astrophysics institutes from other countries. Currently, it has 475 registered periodicals titles, 200 of which are up to date.
A periodicals room is the most important part of a special library, the library user works constantly with up to date information that appears in periodical publications and magazines. It is important that they have access to high quality information that meets this need. Magazines are print and on line publications that are edited in successive parts, they appear in chronological order and are meant to come out indefinitely.
Usually, a periodical’s room holds magazines, newspapers, yearbooks, summaries, revised texts, indexes and periodical’s data bases which can appear on line or in CD format.
The kardex contains a record of all magazines within our periodical publications room.
They are marked in alphabetical order according to title which matches a classification number. This is a whole number or decimal number that organizes the material within the collection.
On Line Kardex (only Intranet)
