Collections

In order to build a high-quality collection, the whole community must get involved, since it is a global activity. In the end, our community will judge whether or not they have done a good job.

These are some facts that should be considered in doing so:

I. New technologies are always being developed and it is important to apply them. These technologies allow a better dissemination and exchange of information.

II. Today’s globalized technology is quickly advancing however, our focus must be on the current materials and documents, this, along with the support of the Institution is far more important because it provides those tools. We must not focus on financial limitations.

III. We must research the editorial business and be informed of discounts, dissemination, distribution, coverage limits for research and postgraduate materials as well as shipping times. Collaboration with other institutions should also be considered.

IV. The library’s objectives in regard to specific communities (Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computer Sciences), -along with the services they offer- and INAOE lines of investigation are of vital importance. The Selection Committee’s and librarian’s careful choices will balance and complement the collection.
